Morocco’s Advanced Logistics Capabilities Boost Its Global Influence- Former VP of Colombia

In an interview with MAP on the occasion of the celebration of the glorious Throne Day, Lucia Ramirez praised Morocco’s significant progress in connectivity, transport, and logistics, noting that the country has cemented its position as a strategic partner for both Europe and Africa, while attracting increasing interest from international investors.

Listing the major infrastructure projects that, according to her, have reshaped Morocco’s image, she highlighted the Tanger Med port, described as “the largest port in Africa and one of the world’s top 30 container ports.”

Strategically located on the Strait of Gibraltar, with direct connections to over 180 international ports, this infrastructure has made Morocco “a global logistics hub,” essential for Europe–Africa and Atlantic–Mediterranean trade, she emphasized.

She also cited the high-speed rail line “Al Boraq,” the first of its kind in Africa, which has enhanced internal connectivity and contributed to the modernization of Morocco’s rail network and transport systems.

Lucia Ramirez highlighted the development of Morocco’s highway and road networks, noting that over 1,800 kilometers of highways have been built or upgraded to improve access to remote areas and enhance logistics competitiveness through direct links between ports, industrial zones, and major urban centers.

In the renewable energy sector, she added, the Noor Solar Complex in Ouarzazate has positioned Morocco as “an African leader in renewable energies (solar, wind, and hydroelectric),” with the goal of generating more than 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

She further emphasized the Kingdom’s achievements in urban and tourism development, particularly through the rehabilitation of historic medinas across various regions, combining cultural preservation with tourist appeal.

Other flagship projects, such as Casablanca Finance City, are also aimed at establishing Morocco as a leading regional financial hub, she noted.

Addressing the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the former Colombian diplomat highlighted the massive investments made in the southern provinces in road, port, energy, and social infrastructure, aimed at injecting new dynamism into the region.

All these remarkable infrastructure projects implemented over the past 26 years under the leadership of His Majesty the King have transformed Morocco’s global image and appeal, making it a key logistics, tourism, and investment platform, Lucia Ramirez concluded.
