UN Special Representative for Libya Praises Morocco’s Commitment as ‘Very Important Partner’ in Facilitating Inter-Libyan Dialogue

In a press statement following her meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Tetteh expressed her “deep appreciation” to the Kingdom for its efforts to advance the political process in Libya, as well as for its consistent support to UNSMIL.

Morocco is a “very important partner” in building agreement and consensus among Libyan interlocutors, she added, noting that the Kingdom contributed to overcoming “crucial” stages in this process.

Tetteh also stated the “particularly sensitive phase” Libya is currently going through, “marked by tensions in Tripoli in recent months and municipal elections facing multiple challenges,” noting that the UN is working with Libyan actors to establish a new political roadmap.

She reaffirmed, in this regard, UNSMIL’s determination to continue working alongside Libyans, with the support of Morocco and the international community, to put an end to the current situation.
