This gathering, attended by around fifty senior security officials from various African countries, provided an opportunity to highlight strategies aimed at optimizing security budgets by analyzing spending trends and taking into account key political, economic, and social factors that influence security sector expenditures in Africa.

It also enabled participants to propose concrete solutions to improve the use of resources within the security sector, with particular emphasis on reducing waste, promoting transparency, and fostering inclusive economic growth.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the event, ACSS Director Amanda Dory stressed that this workshop was an opportunity to work with 17 African countries and regional organizations to identify strategic priorities in security, while examining best practices in the use of available resources.

She added that over the four days of the event, African defense and security officials focused on both theoretical and practical aspects to ensure optimal allocation and management of resources.

Participants in the workshop welcomed the organization of this important meeting, which aims to strengthen the capacities of security actors while consolidating partnerships between African countries.

They further noted that the various sessions on the agenda made it possible to learn about concrete approaches in developing and optimizing national security strategies, highlighting that the exchanges and debates which marked this gathering helped identify pathways and concrete actions to be undertaken.

Recalling that Africa abounds in considerable wealth, the speakers nonetheless warned against the vulnerability of existing resources to threats that could deplete them if not managed in a coordinated and harmonious manner.
