According to the same source, discussions focused on the administrative, financial, and budgetary management of military health services, as well as prospects for exchanges of expertise between Malian and Moroccan officers.
General Dembélé stressed on this occasion that “Morocco and Mali have long maintained excellent relations in many areas,” highlighting the Kingdom’s key role in training programs offered to Mali. He also expressed hope that this cooperation would rise to the level of expectations, especially with the upcoming completion of a military hospital in Bamako.
For his part, Lieutenant-Colonel Marouane Afani praised the warm welcome extended to the Moroccan delegation and voiced his pride in sharing Morocco’s experience in military health. He also underlined the importance of visiting the new Malian military hospital, set to become a reference facility for the country’s armed forces.
The visit also included a field tour: the Moroccan delegation visited the multidisciplinary clinic of Kati and the medical-surgical center of the armed forces in Bamako, two strategic medical facilities for the Malian Army.
Expanding military cooperation
This mission is part of a broader dynamic of closer military ties between Rabat and Bamako. Last February, the first joint military committee between the two countries laid the foundation for enhanced cooperation in training, equipment, administration, and health services.
In April, this cooperation took shape on the ground with a training program led by the paratrooper brigade of the Royal Armed Forces, which trained 165 Malian soldiers in operational parachuting and airborne deployment techniques, strengthening their ability to respond in complex security contexts.
Morocco, a strategic partner in Africa
For many analysts, the growing military partnership between Rabat and Bamako reflects the willingness of several African armies, particularly those facing security challenges in the Sahel, to draw on Moroccan expertise. With solid experience in counter-terrorism, military training, and peacekeeping operations, Morocco is increasingly seen as a credible and reliable partner in helping African countries strengthen their military and logistical capabilities.
Military cooperation between Morocco and Mali, especially in the field of military health, thus stands as a model of South-South partnership, built on solidarity, the sharing of expertise, and the search for solutions adapted to African realities.
