Rabat to Host ‘High-Level Retreat on Future of Euro-Mediterranean Relations’ on September 11

The opening session will be inaugurated by Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and Dubravka Suica, European Commissioner responsible for the Mediterranean. It will also feature, among others, the participation of Nasser Kamal, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).

This gathering will bring together, for the first time, leading actors from the Euro-Mediterranean region, including senior government officials, international financial institutions, private sector representatives, as well as experts, researchers and think tanks from the European Union and southern Mediterranean countries.

Throughout the day, participants will engage in in-depth strategic discussions on the future of Euro-Mediterranean relations, particularly between the European Union and the countries of the southern Mediterranean. These deliberations take on special significance as they precede the commemoration, next November, of the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Declaration and the launch of the Barcelona Process.

The main objective of this retreat is to assess relations between the EU and its southern partners and to explore concrete avenues for enhanced cooperation on priority and strategic issues for both shores of the Mediterranean.

This unprecedented initiative once again reaffirms the Kingdom of Morocco’s steadfast commitment, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to a solid, mutually beneficial, and forward-looking regional cooperation.
