Morocco’s FM Highlights Kingdom’s Migration Achievements in New York

During the event, held under the theme “Migration at a Crossroads: A Strategic Dialogue for a Changing World,” Bourita emphasized that Morocco adopts a clear and coherent vision under the guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Africa’s Leader on Migration.

The minister recalled Morocco’s major initiatives in this area, notably the African Migration Agenda adopted by the AU as a continental reference framework, along with the African Migration Observatory, based in Rabat, which provides essential data for evidence-based public policies.

He also mentioned the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in Marrakesh in 2018, and Morocco’s exemplary partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which has spanned over two decades.

Bourita additionally stressed that Morocco fully understands the complex nature of migration and champions an approach based on solidarity, shared responsibility, and joint solutions.

In this context, he highlighted the tangible success of international cooperation, citing in particular the Morocco–Spain partnership, as a reflection of a pragmatic and effective approach, while advocating for the promotion of the Champion Countries of the Global Compact, in order to accelerate its implementation on the ground.

The minister put forward several proposals aimed at establishing credible and effective migration governance, based on enhancing data and knowledge through interconnected observatories, showcasing successful migration experiences, and increasing the mobilization of resources.

He concluded by calling for collective responsibility to transform migration into a lever for dialogue, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
