Nasser Bourita Meets in New York with UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Yvette Cooper

The talks, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, highlighted the strong partnership between the two countries. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreements signed, as well as the provisions set out in the Joint Communiqué adopted following the 5th session of the Morocco–United Kingdom Strategic Dialogue, held in Rabat on June 1, 2025.

In that Joint Communiqué, signed by Mr. Bourita and his British counterpart, the United Kingdom recognized Morocco’s autonomy proposal as “the most credible, viable and pragmatic basis for a lasting settlement” of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The United Kingdom also confirmed in the same communiqué that “UK Export Finance may consider supporting projects in the Sahara,” particularly within the framework of “its commitment to mobilize £5 billion to support new economic projects across the country.”
