The UN Security Council Poised to Endorse Morocco’s Autonomy Plan: A Historic Victory for the Kingdom and a Major Setback for Algeria’s Military Regime

This new resolution, set to be voted on today, marks an irreversible turning point in the Sahara issue. It strongly reaffirms the political process under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, emphasizing the need for negotiations to be conducted on the basis of Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, presented on April 11, 2007.

The Council thus reaffirms “its commitment to assist the parties in achieving a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution based on compromise and in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.”

More importantly, the text explicitly recognizes that “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty represents the most realistic solution.”

This stands as a clear and unequivocal acknowledgment of the legitimacy of Morocco’s position—and a resounding rebuke to Algeria’s military regime, which continues to manipulate the issue for ideological purposes while propping up a puppet entity, the so-called “polisario,” at the expense of regional stability.

While Algeria sinks deeper into crisis—marked by shortages, repression, and diplomatic isolation—Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues to consolidate its status as a responsible regional power and a driver of peace.

In a highly symbolic gesture, the United States expressed its full readiness to host future negotiations between the four parties, praising the Kingdom’s leadership and the constructive spirit of its diplomacy.

The Council also takes note of the broad international support for the Moroccan plan, confirming that the global community now stands behind the only credible path forward: autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.

The resolution further underscores “the urgency of a definitive political solution” and acknowledges “the momentum and credibility” instilled by Morocco in the process. In other words, the tide has decisively turned in the Kingdom’s favor.

Faced with this historic breakthrough, the generals in Algiers—mired in internal failures and consumed by their obsession with Morocco—find themselves once again isolated, undone by their own strategy of obstruction and disinformation.

This diplomatic triumph is more than just a UN document; it represents the victory of legitimacy, wisdom, and royal vision over the schemes of a decaying military regime. The Moroccan Sahara thus moves closer to its definitive recognition within the international community, reaffirming the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the architect of a diplomacy rooted in peace, stability, and shared development.
