Francis Kasaila: Malawi Welcomes the International Momentum Supporting Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Its Sahara and the Adoption of Resolution 2797

The 17th edition of the MEDays Forum, held in Tangier under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, dedicated a high-level session entitled: “50 Years After the Green March – The Moroccan Sahara, From Sovereignty to Development and Growth.” This event brought together experts, policymakers and international officials to assess the major progress achieved in the Southern Provinces over the past five decades.

Speakers highlighted the pivotal role of the Moroccan Sahara in the country’s national dynamic, recalling that it has become a key driver of economic growth, regional stability and African integration, thanks to the large-scale projects launched under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Resolution 2797: A Major Diplomatic Milestone

In this context, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malawi, Francis Kasaila, emphasized the importance of Resolution 2797, describing it as “a significant milestone in the international recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its territory.”
He noted that this development substantially strengthens regional stability while reinforcing the foundations of inclusive and sustainable development.

A Recognized Development Model

Discussions also highlighted the rapid transformation of the Southern Provinces, now a strategic hub for national and international investment, the development of modern infrastructures, South-South cooperation and the Kingdom’s geopolitical outreach.

Participants unanimously praised the Moroccan approach, grounded in the Royal Vision, which has turned the Sahara into a space of innovation, openness and structural growth.
