The first partnership mission between the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD) and the National Anti-Doping Organization of Gabon (ONAD Gabon) was held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Libreville, with the aim of supporting the newly established Gabonese structure in setting up its operational mechanisms, strengthening its capacities, and aligning its practices with international standards in the fight against doping in sport.
Held under the auspices of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), this two-day meeting seeks to implement a partnership to reinforce the capacities of ONAD Gabon, with the support of the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency, particularly in governance, anti-doping controls, and education.
The opening of the meeting was chaired by Gabon’s Minister of Reform and Relations with Institutions, Jean-François Ndong Obiang, in the presence notably of AMAD President Dr. Fatima Abouali, ONAD Gabon President Dr. Cyrille Mouyopa, President of the Gabonese National Olympic Committee Crésant Pambo, as well as WADA representative Angela Rmirez.
On this occasion, Ms. Abouali stated that this meeting, which comes within the framework of supporting Gabon in its fight against doping, marks an important step “in our shared commitment to protecting the integrity of sport, promoting ethics, and defending the values of fair play.”
Called upon by the World Anti-Doping Agency to support the young Gabonese ONAD, AMAD is working to build a strong African network capable of addressing the challenges of anti-doping and ensuring a healthy and fair environment for athletes, she stressed, noting that this partnership opens a new chapter of cooperation based on the sharing of expertise, solidarity, and innovation.
She added that this partnership also falls within the framework of South-South cooperation and the monitoring process of national anti-doping organizations, noting that Morocco has become a reference in the field of anti-doping and compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the international standards governing this area.
For his part, the President of ONAD Gabon said that this high-level meeting aims to implement a win-win partnership with the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency in order to support the Gabonese organization and strengthen its capacities.
As part of its mission to implement the anti-doping law, ONAD Gabon “needs to be supported by a more established organization such as the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency, with which we maintain very good relations,” he explained.
Highlighting AMAD’s achievements and strong expertise in anti-doping and the implementation of internationally adapted control procedures, Mr. Mouyopa noted that this cooperation will make it possible to establish governance tools to build policies in the field of anti-doping and to maintain ONAD Gabon’s compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code.
In this regard, he pointed out that this partnership focuses on the development of governance policies and anti-doping control, incorporating innovations introduced in the new World Anti-Doping Code, as well as on education and awareness among athletes and sports federations.
