Automotive Industry: Stellantis Brings Chinese Group Leapmotor to Morocco
Stellantis Morocco has taken a decisive step by announcing the arrival of Leapmotor, a Chinese manufacturer recognized as one of the world’s pioneers in smart electric mobility. This introduction marks the opening of a new chapter for Morocco’s automotive sector, which is undergoing rapid transformation toward sustainable transport solutions.

Founded in 2015 by Jiangming Zhu, a visionary entrepreneur from the high-tech sector, Leapmotor has established itself as a leading name in China thanks to its mastery of the entire value chain: battery design, development of onboard software, and vehicle manufacturing. In less than a decade, the company has sold over 600,000 fully electric vehicles in the Chinese market. Leapmotor now has a clear ambition: to reach 500,000 annual sales as early as 2025.
The brand’s international expansion is driven by a strategic alliance with Stellantis, one of the global giants of the automotive industry. This joint venture provides Leapmotor with a solid infrastructure, a first-class distribution network, and a framework that meets the highest quality standards. For Leapmotor, this partnership is a key lever to accelerate the rollout of its innovations beyond China.
At the heart of this strategy is REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) technology, which redefines the electric driving experience. Using a combustion engine solely to recharge the battery—with no mechanical link to the wheels—the vehicle maintains a 100% electric drive while eliminating range anxiety. This breakthrough directly addresses the specific needs of the Moroccan market, where charging infrastructure is still expanding.
As Morocco commits firmly to energy transition, Leapmotor offers a pragmatic solution combining energy efficiency, user comfort, and affordability. The brand’s arrival aligns with the country’s national strategy to build a greener and more sustainable mobility ecosystem.
Moroccan drivers will get a first glimpse of the Leapmotor universe and its models at Auto Expo 2025, scheduled from September 18 to 28 at Casablanca’s Anfa Park. Distribution in Morocco will be handled by Sopriam, a subsidiary of Stellantis Morocco.
However, Leapmotor’s ambitions go beyond a simple showcase. The brand aims to establish a lasting presence built on quality, customer proximity, and accessible innovation. This gradual expansion reflects a clear vision: to support the Moroccan market over the long term and meet its growing demand for clean mobility.
With the introduction of Leapmotor, Stellantis Morocco strengthens its portfolio of innovative brands and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s journey toward inclusive, sustainable, and future-oriented mobility.
