Nasser Bourita: Morocco’s Support for Palestine Combines Diplomatic Action and On-the-Ground Initiatives
Speaking Tuesday in Rabat, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita reaffirmed that Morocco’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, merges diplomatic engagement with concrete initiatives directly benefiting the Palestinian people.

At a press briefing held during the 5th Summit of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-organized by Morocco and the Netherlands under the theme “Maintaining Momentum for Peace: Lessons Learned, Achievements, and Next Steps”, Bourita explained that Morocco’s approach combines diplomatic efforts to establish peace in the Middle East with daily support for Palestinians, especially through projects targeting families and children.
A Tangible Commitment Through Bayt Mal Al-Qods
The minister highlighted the critical role of the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Acharif Agency, the operational arm of the Al-Quds Committee, which supports the resilience of Jerusalem’s residents through concrete initiatives in areas such as food assistance, medical care, and education.
Bourita emphasized that this summit is part of Morocco’s decades-long commitment to the peace process and the Palestinian cause, with the ultimate goal being the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel, in line with the two-state solution.
International Trust in Morocco’s Role
He noted that holding this summit in Rabat reflects the trust of regional and international stakeholders in Morocco’s credibility and diplomatic leadership. The event welcomed over 50 countries and international organizations invested in reviving the peace process.
A Context of Crisis
The minister also pointed to the current critical situation, marked by ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestinian territories, which he described as “serious, unacceptable, and contrary to international law and basic human values.” Despite this, he underscored the importance of staying focused on peace as the only viable objective.
Toward Concrete Recommendations and Global Mobilization
This summit, he added, precedes a high-level international peace conference to be held in New York next month, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. Rabat’s outcomes will serve as input for that upcoming conference, contributing to a shared global vision.
Bourita called for the preservation of historical international frameworks — from UN General Assembly resolutions of the 1940s to the Oslo Accords and the Madrid Conference — describing them as the foundation of the peace process. He reaffirmed Morocco’s support for the Palestinian Authority under President Mahmoud Abbas, viewed by King Mohammed VI as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and the key partner in peace efforts.
Economic Support Must Accompany Political Solutions
On the economic front, the minister stressed the importance of supporting socioeconomic aspects as a way to prepare the ground for sustainable peace. He cautioned that while humanitarian and economic aid are crucial, they cannot replace the political necessity of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state.
A National Cause for Morocco
Bourita concluded by asserting that Morocco’s position remains clear and unwavering, with the Palestinian cause considered a national cause by King Mohammed VI. In today’s volatile regional context, this meeting, he said, is a bet on peace and an investment in a hopeful future, aiming to mobilize the international community around the two-state solution as the only path to peace, dignity, and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The summit also aims to structure and consolidate international references around the two-state solution through a summary document cataloging past initiatives, measures, and frameworks.
Ultimately, this meeting is expected to yield concrete political recommendations and launch a platform of projects and initiatives to support lasting peace in the Middle East. The Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, launched during the 2024 UN General Assembly, continues its mission through this fifth gathering, following previous sessions in Riyadh, Brussels, Oslo, and Cairo.
