Morocco–United States: Nearly 250 years of friendship and an exceptional strategic partnership celebrated in Tangier
The celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America in Tangier, within the highly symbolic setting of the American Legation, represents far more than a commemorative event. It serves as a reminder of a historical truth rarely matched in international relations: the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States share one of the oldest and most enduring diplomatic friendships in the world.

As the first country to recognize American independence in 1777, Morocco very early anchored its relationship with the United States in a framework of mutual respect, strategic trust and lasting cooperation. Nearly two and a half centuries later, this relationship has continued to grow stronger, adapting to geopolitical shifts while preserving its founding principles.
The event organized in Tangier by the United States Embassy in Morocco, in partnership with MACECE and TALIM, highlighted the essential pillars of this exceptional relationship: diplomacy, security cooperation, and educational and cultural exchange. These are areas in which Morocco has established itself as a reliable and strategic ally of the United States in Africa, the Mediterranean region and beyond.
The Fulbright Program, a genuine bridge between Moroccan and American youth, perfectly embodies this shared vision. It aims to train globally minded elites who carry values of dialogue, innovation and mutual understanding. Its lasting impact reflects the deep human dimension of the bilateral relationship, extending well beyond political or economic agreements.
Under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom of Morocco has consolidated its position as a major partner of the United States, both on issues of regional security and on matters of development, stability and intercultural dialogue. This relationship is built on a shared vision of a world grounded in cooperation, peace and respect among nations.
