Strategic Partnership: The United Kingdom Commits to Modernizing Morocco’s Airports under the “Airports 2030” Program
In a spirit of strengthened cooperation and shared ambitions, the United Kingdom is firmly committing alongside Morocco to support the transformation of its airport infrastructure by 2030. Through the national “Airports 2030” program, driven by the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom is preparing to host the 2030 World Cup by turning its airports into true regional hubs of connectivity, innovation, and sustainability. And it is Britain that aims to play a leading role in this promising momentum.
During an official visit to Rabat, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized London’s commitment to making British groups key partners in this strategic transformation. Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat: these cities are set to become showcases of airport excellence, led by the ambitious expansion project of Mohammed V Airport, valued at over £1.2 billion.
This commitment is part of a broader framework of bilateral cooperation, now reinforced by agreements facilitating British companies’ access to a portfolio of public opportunities estimated at £33 billion over the next three years. A major economic turning point that reflects Morocco’s growing attractiveness to international — and especially British — investors.
But this new era of partnership goes beyond aviation. London is also multiplying initiatives in key sectors of Morocco’s transformation. In healthcare, a landmark cooperation agreement provides for the construction of a 250-bed hospital in Casablanca, funded with £150 million. Backed by the expertise of the National Health Service (NHS), this project illustrates Britain’s desire to actively contribute to the reform of Morocco’s healthcare system, while boosting its own medical and pharmaceutical industries.
The sectors of water, ports, and the green economy are also seeing increased collaboration. A £200 million partnership is in preparation to support Morocco in sustainable water resource management, smart port logistics, and green infrastructure — in line with the Kingdom’s ecological transition goals.
Added to this is a bilateral agreement on public procurement, ensuring British companies fair and transparent participation in Moroccan tenders — an essential lever of trust to strengthen the attractiveness of the Moroccan market.
On the diplomatic front, London marked a historic turning point by expressing clear support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative in the Sahara, described by the Foreign Office as “serious, credible, and pragmatic.” In a joint statement signed in Rabat with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, the UK government reaffirmed that UK Export Finance is now ready to mobilize up to £5 billion to support new economic projects throughout the Kingdom, including in the southern provinces.
Through this ambitious alliance, the United Kingdom recognizes Morocco’s central role as a pillar of stability, innovation, and growth in North Africa and beyond. And in this win-win cooperation, Morocco once again demonstrates its ability to rally major powers around its strategic vision, focused on a prosperous, modern, and sustainable future.
