The President of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, María Catalina Del Real Mihovilovic, reiterated on Tuesday in Rabat the Group’s support for UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara.

This resolution enshrines the autonomy plan as “a lasting and serious solution” to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, she told the press following her meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

Del Real Mihovilovic pointed out that the friendship group, which includes several political parties, fully supports this resolution.

She also underlined that Morocco represents to her country a gateway to Africa, expressing her hope that Chile could, for its part, serve as a platform for access to the Kingdom towards Latin America and the Pacific region.

She also highlighted the potential for economic complementarity between the two countries, particularly in the agricultural sector, noting the importance of Moroccan fertilizers for agriculture in Chile. Chile is an exporter of strategic minerals such as copper and lithium, which are essential to the automotive industry that is experiencing remarkable growth in Morocco.

Similarly, the Chilean delegation emphasized the importance for its country of forging strategic partnerships with the Kingdom in other fields, including seawater desalination, technology, and tourism.

Del Real Mihovilovic recalled that the Chilean parliamentary delegation’s visit to the Kingdom coincides with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations between the two countries, as well as the 22nd anniversary of the visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, to Chile. She noted that her country’s foreign policy is “a State policy and that our friendship with Morocco transcends political affiliations.”
