Fouzi Lekjaa: 15,000 Families Receive Direct Financial Assistance Under Flood Relief Program

The Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, announced on Thursday that 15,000 families have received direct financial assistance of 6,000 dirhams per family as part of the government program designed to support and assist populations affected by floods that struck certain regions in northern and western Morocco.

Speaking during a press briefing held following the weekly Government Council meeting, the minister explained that this assistance is primarily intended for families exposed to risks linked to flooding and who were forced to move to safer areas. He also stressed the importance of ensuring that this support effectively reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Regarding homes that suffered varying degrees of damage, Lekjaa stated that, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions, the government will grant assistance of 15,000 dirhams to families who have returned to their damaged homes in order to help them carry out the necessary repairs. The same amount will also be granted to affected businesses.

The minister further indicated that families whose homes were completely destroyed, particularly in certain rural areas, will receive assistance of 140,000 dirhams for each collapsed house, based on assessments carried out by local authorities, in order to help them rebuild their homes.

He also noted that the floods caused significant damage to infrastructure, particularly bridges, roads, and rural tracks. Services from the Ministry of Equipment and Transport, in coordination with local authorities and the various concerned departments, have already begun repair and rehabilitation work according to the extent of the damage.

With regard to the agricultural sector, Lekjaa affirmed that, in application of the High Royal Instructions, direct support will be granted to affected farmers to enable them to continue their activities during the spring agricultural campaign. This measure aims to support farmers in their activities, whether in livestock or crop production, while mobilizing the necessary financial resources to allow agricultural operations in the affected areas to quickly return to normal conditions.

The minister concluded by emphasizing that this program, which has a total budget of 3 billion dirhams, includes clearly defined mechanisms and presents no particular difficulties either in terms of understanding or implementation.
