Moroccan Sahara: Fan Zone Inaugurated in Laâyoune for an Immersive CAN 2025 Experience
In an atmosphere blending sport, culture and entertainment, a Fan Zone was inaugurated on Sunday in Laâyoune on the occasion of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025).
Initiated by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and in coordination with the municipality of Laâyoune, this Fan Zone, set up within the sports village, offers live broadcasts of matches on a giant screen throughout the competition, in a spirit of conviviality and shared celebration.
Like other regions of the Kingdom, Laâyoune has been equipped with this dynamic and recreational space, offering visitors an immersive experience with numerous activities and animations for all ages, including table football, mini-football and subsoccer tournaments.
Before the official kickoff of the CAN, the public was dazzled by a luminous drone show, providing spectators with a captivating and memorable moment. Perfectly synchronized, the display drew football-inspired shapes and patterns across the night sky, creating a striking visual experience.
Another highlight of the Fan Zone’s opening ceremony was the appearance of the group Fnaire, welcomed by the cheers of an enthusiastic, intergenerational crowd. Drawing from Morocco’s rich musical heritage, the group energized the audience with its iconic songs, blending traditional influences with contemporary sounds for a festive and vibrant performance.
Meanwhile, the emblematic Al Mechouar square was transformed into a vast gathering place, where supporters, wearing the Lions of the Atlas jerseys and waving national flags, eagerly awaited the kickoff of the match.
The same excitement could be felt in cafés, already filled to capacity. Draped in national colors, fans rushed to secure the last available seats on terraces to immerse themselves in a lively and festive atmosphere.
Between packed cafés, animated public squares and a buzzing Fan Zone, Laâyoune promises a month of intense football, where each match will give rise to chants, cheers and collective celebrations, turning the city into a true hub of CAN 2025 fervor.
