Moroccan Sahara: Kenyan Senate Delegation Explores Cooperation Opportunities in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab

A delegation from the Kenyan Senate’s Special Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds carried out a working visit to Dakhla on Thursday, aimed at strengthening cooperation ties between Morocco and Kenya.

Led by Committee Chair Godfrey Osotsi, the visit offered the Kenyan parliamentarians an opportunity to witness first-hand the region’s development momentum and the major projects underway, while also exploring prospects for partnerships with local institutional and economic actors.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Osotsi underlined that the visit “falls within the framework of reinforcing cooperation between the two countries,” noting that some Kenyan regions have already established twinning agreements with Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. He also reiterated Kenya’s support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the only credible solution to the regional dispute, stressing that this clear position was reaffirmed during the visit to Dakhla.

For his part, El Khattat Yanja, President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, stated that the Kenyan delegation was briefed on several projects being carried out under the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched by King Mohammed VI in 2015.

He added that this visit is part of the ongoing decentralized cooperation already initiated between Kenyan regions and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, recalling that a Kenyan delegation visited the region last year and signed partnership agreements.

During their stay, the Kenyan senators held talks with regional representatives and conducted field visits to several major projects, including the construction site of the new Dakhla Atlantic Port, which is set to strengthen the region’s role as a leading economic and logistics hub.
