Israeli Attack: UN Security Council Reaffirms Support for Qatar’s Sovereignty
Members of the UN Security Council on Thursday condemned the Israeli attack in Doha, while underscoring their support for Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with the principles of the UN Charter.
In a press statement, the Council’s fifteen members stressed the importance of de-escalation, highlighting the key role that Qatar “continues to play” in regional mediation efforts.
They further emphasized that the release of hostages must remain an absolute priority. In this regard, they reiterated the importance of ongoing diplomatic efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, while calling on all parties to seize the opportunity for peace.
On Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a press briefing, condemned the Israeli attack in Doha, describing it as a “serious violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
