Military Defense: Morocco and India Sign Memorandum of Understanding
In accordance with the High Royal Instructions, Mr. Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the Administration of National Defense, received on Monday at the headquarters of the Administration, Mr. Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defense of the Republic of India, accompanied by a high-level delegation on a working visit to the Kingdom.
According to a statement from the Administration of National Defense, this visit, which falls within the framework of strengthening and diversifying bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of India, was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the field of defense. The signing took place in the presence of General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, and General Mohamed Haramou, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie.
The statement specifies that this memorandum of understanding covers cooperation in the areas of training and exercises, cybersecurity and cyber defense, the defense industry, military health, as well as the exchange of expertise and experience in various fields of common interest. The agreement also provides for the establishment of a joint mechanism for monitoring and coordinating the agreed cooperation activities.
On this occasion, the two ministers recalled the historic relations of friendship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of India, which have gained new momentum since the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to India in 2015 and his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They emphasized the priority character of the partnership between the two countries.
Furthermore, the two officials exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues, as well as on ways to strengthen defense cooperation, particularly in the field of the defense industry.
The meeting was also an opportunity to highlight the various South-South cooperation and regional integration initiatives launched by His Majesty the King, which have established Morocco as a central actor for stability, a promoter of peace, and a provider of security for neighboring countries. In this context, the ministers stressed the importance of establishing strategic partnerships between Morocco and India within the framework of South-South cooperation in the service of the development of both countries and African nations.
During this meeting, the two officials expressed their ambition and shared determination to further strengthen these relations in the future, through the effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in the field of defense, which reflects the bonds of friendship, trust, and mutual respect uniting the two countries.
