AFCON 2025: The Moroccan security model under the watch of the FBI

Morocco is once again confirming its status as an international reference in the securing of major sporting events. On the sidelines of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the General Directorate of National Security welcomed an official FBI delegation that came to closely examine the security system deployed for this continental competition.

Led by senior officials of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, the delegation carried out a full immersion at the heart of the Moroccan security system, notably at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat during the Morocco–Tanzania match. It was an opportunity for the American experts to observe an integrated setup combining human presence, cutting edge technology and real time coordination, through the use of drones, smart cameras and modern command centers.

One of the highlights of the visit was the discovery of the African Center for Security Cooperation, a true coordination platform between Moroccan services and police representatives from the African countries involved in the AFCON. This unprecedented model promotes information sharing, risk anticipation and smooth management of supporter flows, illustrating Morocco’s proactive approach to event security.

The visit planned at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, on the occasion of the Algeria–DR Congo match, will also make it possible to assess the reception systems for foreign supporters and the role of the spotters, escort officers responsible for mediation and prevention, a mechanism praised for its effectiveness.

Beyond AFCON 2025, this initiative reflects the strategic interest of the United States in Moroccan expertise, at a time when Washington is preparing to host the 2026 World Cup. It also illustrates the strength of the Moroccan American security partnership, based on the exchange of know how, risk management and technological innovation.

As the co hosting of the 2030 World Cup approaches, Morocco is thus positioning itself as a credible and experienced actor, capable of ensuring the security of global scale sporting events, while offering a model that is exportable and recognized by the world’s leading powers.
