Morocco, Niger Explore Ways to Bolster Health Cooperation at Rabat Meeting

Rabat - Means of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector were at the center of talks held Thursday in Rabat between the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, and Niger's Minister of Public Health, Colonel-Major Garba Hakimi, who is on a working visit to Morocco leading a senior delegation.

As part of efforts to enhance the exemplary cooperative relations between the two brotherly countries, this meeting provided an opportunity to examine ways to assess the progress of cooperation in various areas of common interest, including the exchange of expertise, the development of health skills, and the improvement of medical services, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

The discussions also highlighted Morocco’s pioneering experience in reforming its health system and the progress achieved in governance, digitalization, mobile healthcare, and the strengthening of hospital infrastructure, the same source noted.

Furthermore, both officials discussed the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding on medical evacuation operations signed in 2004, as well as the update of the Memorandum of Understanding in the health field concluded in 2017.

They also reviewed the finalization of procedures for signing a cooperation agreement in oncology, jointly developed, which reflects the shared will of both countries to expand their collaboration to include training, scientific research, and the strengthening of technical and human capacities in the health sector.

This meeting illustrates the depth of fraternal ties and African solidarity between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Niger, embodying the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation in the service of sustainable human development across the African continent, while reaffirming Morocco’s position as a credible partner and key actor in the field of public health, the statement concluded.
