US Presidential Adviser Massad Boulos Confirms: Washington to Open a Consulate in Dakhla, Moroccan Sahara

In a statement that reaffirms the strength of the United States’ position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity, Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser to US President Donald Trump for African Affairs, announced that the United States will soon open a consulate in Dakhla.

Speaking in an interview with Al Sharq channel, broadcast on Thursday, October 16, Boulos was asked about the possibility of such an opening in the “Western Sahara.” His answer left no room for ambiguity:

“Certainly… And let’s be clear, it is the Moroccan Sahara, not Western.”

A powerful and symbolic statement that recalls the historic decision of the Trump administration in December 2020 to officially recognize Morocco’s full sovereignty over its southern provinces.

The senior US adviser also praised the clear-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, recalling that “the Throne Speech was marked by exceptional wisdom and clarity, particularly in its reference to the fraternal relations with the Algerian people and state.” Boulos described the speech as a “historic declaration” that reflected the King’s genuine desire to promote stability and regional reconciliation.

Unwavering American Support for Morocco’s Position

Massad Boulos reaffirmed that Washington’s stance remains aligned with that announced by President Trump, which seeks a realistic, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara issue within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

He added:

“The King spoke of an honorable compromise, with neither winners nor losers. This is the path of wisdom and pragmatism that we fully support.”

A Strengthened Diplomatic Perspective

Boulos also revealed that the upcoming session of the United Nations Security Council will devote a large portion of its discussions to the UN mission in the Sahara (MINURSO), stating that “the time has come to bring a definitive solution to a conflict that has lasted nearly half a century.”

The US official emphasized the quality of relations between Washington and Algiers, while stressing the United States’ commitment to promoting dialogue and cooperation between Morocco and Algeria in the interest of regional peace. He also praised “the constructive role of European partners,” citing France, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the European Union for their continued contributions toward a lasting resolution.

American Optimism for Lasting Peace

In conclusion, Massad Boulos expressed confidence in the direction the issue is taking:

“We are more optimistic than ever. This matter is moving toward a positive, fair, and lasting outcome.”

This clear and decisive statement once again reinforces Morocco’s position on the international stage and reaffirms the irreversible nature of the US recognition of the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara, a symbol of the deep and strategic partnership between Rabat and Washington.
