Mohamed Ouahbi: “His Majesty the King laid the foundations of a true football renaissance that today brings Morocco the world title”
His Majesty King Mohammed VI laid the foundations of a genuine football renaissance, which today enabled Morocco to win the U20 World Cup in Chile, said national coach Mohamed Ouahbi.

Speaking at a press conference after Morocco’s 2–0 victory over Argentina in the final, Ouahbi praised the King’s enlightened vision, which established the foundations of this football revival through the creation of the Mohammed VI Football Academy and the establishment of regional sports federations.
He explained that these exemplary infrastructures have fostered the emergence of a new generation of talented players who have proudly raised the Moroccan flag. “This world title is the natural result of years of effort and dedication. I am proud of this achievement, which will remain forever in the memory of Moroccan football,” he said.
“Today, we have a team truly capable of winning the World Cup,” Ouahbi affirmed, noting that Morocco deservedly dominated one of the world’s strongest teams. He also commended the “serious and remarkable work” carried out by the technical staff, adding that “their contribution was crucial to this success—it wasn’t just me.”
The coach said the team approached the final “with the spirit of making history,” emphasizing that this victory continues Morocco’s upward trajectory in recent years, including the national team’s remarkable World Cup run in Qatar and the success of various youth categories.
Ouahbi stressed that Moroccan football’s ambitions are now higher than ever, with these repeated triumphs serving as an inspiration to Moroccan youth—not only in sports but across all fields.
He also expressed gratitude for the Chilean fans’ constant support throughout the tournament, thanking them for their warm welcome and hospitality toward the Moroccan delegation.
Regarding the final itself, Ouahbi noted that Argentina was a strong and experienced team, and Morocco’s key objective was to remain calm and follow the tactical plan. “We stayed disciplined, forced them into mistakes, and they paid the price with yellow cards,” he explained.
Tactically, the Atlas Lion Cubs opened the scoring early by breaking through Argentina’s defensive lines. While regretting a few missed chances, Ouahbi praised his players’ defensive solidity and composure in their own box.
With this historic triumph, Morocco’s U20 national team crowns an exceptional journey, having eliminated several world-class teams such as Spain, Brazil, the United States, and France.
Finally, Ouahbi stressed that this achievement goes beyond winning a historic title—it also crowns a long process of structural reform based on modern training methods and a forward-looking vision driven by the Mohammed VI Football Academy, now a genuine incubator of talent and a cornerstone for supplying the national teams with skilled young players capable of competing at the highest continental and international levels.
