Public Urban Transport Program: 257 Buses Received at the Port of Casablanca

A total of 257 new buses were received on Monday at the Port of Casablanca as part of the implementation of the new Public Urban Transport by Bus Program (2025–2029).

Several urban areas will benefit from this new fleet, which marks the first phase of the program aimed at providing all Moroccan cities with urban transport that meets citizens’ expectations in terms of both quality and capacity.

The distribution includes 49 buses for Marrakech, 40 for Agadir, 56 for Tangier, 68 for Tetouan, and 44 for Benslimane.

According to Abdelaaziz Fares, Director General of the Local Development Company (SDL) Marrakech Mobility, this delivery is part of the new delegated management contract model launched by the Ministry of the Interior in coordination with the delegating authorities, namely the “Marrakech Transport” local authority group.

He noted that the group has received 49 buses so far, with another 97 expected soon, bringing the total fleet to 207 vehicles by early November.

These new buses will help meet the growing demand for public transport identified during the restructuring study of the collective transport network, Mr. Fares explained. He added that the buses will be transferred to a logistics platform for the installation of onboard equipment. These systems will allow the Ministry of the Interior, the delegating authorities, and the operators to access reliable data related to the delegated management contract and operational performance.

Mr. Fares also stated that future passengers will have real-time access to network information, line frequencies, and ticketing options through various channels, including websites, ticket vending machines, and mobile applications.

With a total budget of nearly 11 billion dirhams, the Public Urban Transport by Bus Program will benefit 37 delegating authorities across 84 cities and urban areas. It includes the acquisition of around 3,800 buses, as well as intelligent systems for operational assistance and passenger information.

This program lays the foundation for a new model of sustainable mobility governance serving citizens, in line with the High Royal Directives expressed in the Message addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in December 2024 to the Second National Conference on Advanced Regionalization held in Tangier.
