“From M’Diq to Dakhla”: A Series of Sailing Events Commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Green March
The Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation (FRMV) will organize, next November in several cities across the Kingdom, a series of sporting events to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Green March, under the theme: “Sailing Celebrates 50 Years of the Green March: From M’Diq to Dakhla.”

Launched in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, these sporting events will include regattas, rallies, and maritime activities organized by clubs affiliated with the Federation “to commemorate this historic event in a spirit of celebration, memory, and performance,” the FRMV said in a statement.
In this context, in M’Diq, the Royal Yacht Club will host the 35th Al Massira Cup on November 5 and 6, bringing together young sailors in the Optimist, ILCA 4, and ILCA 6 classes, the Federation announced.
In Mohammedia, the same source added, the Sports Association of the Yacht Club of Morocco will hold its Statutory Sailing Regatta on November 6, featuring the ILCA and Optimist categories.
The city of Agadir will follow on November 6 and 7 with a series of regattas organized by the Agadir Yacht Club, highlighting young sailors in the Optimist class as well as Catamaran crews.
The celebrations will then continue in Tarfaya on November 5 and 6, bringing together beginner and experienced Optimist competitors “for learning and competition,” according to the statement.
The Province of Tarfaya will also host the 3rd edition of the Lanzarote-Tarfaya Maritime Friendship Rally from November 14 to 16, organized by the Tarfaya Association for Nautical Sports.
Finally, the city of Dakhla will host, on November 7 and 8, under the aegis of the Lagon Dakhla Association for the Development of Sport and Cultural Activities, the DownWind of Memory, dedicated to the Drifter and Wingfoil disciplines.
“Through this initiative, the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation expresses its attachment to the sea as a space of memory and national cohesion, and reaffirms its mission to promote sailing as an educational, inclusive sport that carries universal values,” the Federation emphasized.
It concluded that “this symbolic journey, from M’Diq to Dakhla, illustrates the diversity and vitality of the Moroccan nautical movement, as well as the ability of sport to unite all generations around a common ideal: a Morocco that is united, strong, and forward-looking.”
