Moroccan Sahara: The Bulgarian Socialist Party ABV voices its support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal
On an official visit to the Moroccan capital, a delegation from the Bulgarian party Alternative for the Bulgarian Revival (ABV) clearly expressed its support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative for the Sahara, which it considers a realistic and constructive path toward a lasting settlement of the regional dispute.

This position was stated in Rabat by Yordanov Petkov Rumen, president of ABV and former Bulgarian Minister of the Interior, following a political meeting with Nabil Benabdellah, Secretary General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS). The talks, held at the PPS headquarters, focused both on regional issues and on prospects for cooperation between the two parties.
The Bulgarian official stressed the importance of favoring pragmatic and consensus based solutions, declaring that the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco represents, in his view, a credible response that respects the Kingdom’s national sovereignty. This stance fits within a political approach centered on stability and the search for lasting compromises.
For his part, Nabil Benabdellah recalled that the Sahara issue remains Morocco’s top national priority. He highlighted the relevance of the initiative launched in 2007 by King Mohammed VI, which now enjoys broad support on the international stage. The PPS leader also referred to UN Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, which recognizes the seriousness and realism of the Moroccan proposal.
Beyond the Sahara file, the discussions also covered Morocco’s political and economic situation, as well as the possibilities for strengthening relations between the two parties. These areas of convergence were formalized through the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement, notably covering political exchanges, training and local level twinning projects.
Through this explicit stance, the ABV party joins a growing international dynamic in favor of the Moroccan autonomy plan, while also paving the way for a structured partnership between Moroccan and European progressive forces.
