UK: Sir Liam Fox Hails Morocco’s Relevant & Coherent Strategy for Developing its Southern Provinces

London - Sir Liam Fox, Chair of the UK Group for the Abraham Accords, praised on Thursday the relevance and coherence of the strategy implemented by Morocco for the development of its Southern Provinces, a strategy based on a solid foundation of investment and shared prosperity

“What I see in Morocco is a coherent strategy for investment in projects including roads, ports, renewable-energy projects, schools and hospitals, and most importantly, country-wide growth,” Sir Fox wrote in a column published in The Economist.

The British politician, who has held several ministerial positions, highlighted in this context what he described as “a story of reunification, investment, and shared prosperity, firmly looking forward” that Morocco is experiencing across its entire territory, including the Southern Provinces.

He further stressed that the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco to resolve the artificial conflict created around its territorial integrity is “the only credible solution to a long-running conflict.”

In this respect, he recalled that the United Kingdom has aligned itself with its allies, including the United States, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and several others, in supporting Morocco’s Autonomy Plan.

This plan, he said, offers local populations the means to govern themselves democratically while benefiting from the opportunities of a united Morocco.

Morocco demonstrates that the path forward lies in the confidence that political solutions and economic opportunity can converge to create lasting peace, Sir Fox said.
