Public Prosecutor cancels nearly 71,000 wanted notices: A major operation to strengthen the rule of law
In an unprecedented move illustrating Morocco’s firm commitment to consolidating the rule of law and protecting individual freedoms, the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office has announced the cancellation of 70,948 wanted notices nationwide, up to the end of October 2025. This large-scale operation was carried out following a meticulous review of 117,359 official reports issued by the Kingdom’s prosecutors.
This initiative follows the circular sent on September 16, 2025, by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to the King’s Attorneys General at the courts of appeal, as well as to the King’s prosecutors at first-instance courts.
The objective: to reexamine all wanted notices, particularly those related to:
- the management of criminal investigations,
- the execution of custodial sentences,
- coercive detention measures,
- or notices that have become obsolete due to the passage of time or other legal reasons.
This initiative reflects a clear commitment: to ensure that restrictions on liberty and punitive measures remain lawful, proportionate, and based on updated grounds.
Prosecutors across the Kingdom worked diligently to review the relevant files. The result: nearly 71,000 wanted notices were canceled, marking a major step toward greater transparency, procedural regularity, and justice in the management of criminal measures.
This operation demonstrates the Moroccan judiciary’s determination to:
- modernize criminal justice management tools,
- strengthen citizens’ trust in judicial institutions,
- and ensure fair application of the law.
It also reflects constant attention to the dignity and freedom of individuals, in line with the overall philosophy of judicial reforms undertaken by the Kingdom.
Through this initiative, Morocco confirms its judicial modernization momentum and its resolve to make the protection of rights and freedoms a fundamental pillar of the national justice system.
