Morocco–United States Military Cooperation: Launch of the Joint Naval Exercises “Atlas Handshake”
The Royal Moroccan Navy and the United States Navy have launched the joint naval exercises “Atlas Handshake”, an operation carried out as part of the ongoing strengthening of bilateral cooperation in maritime security.

These maneuvers, conducted off the Moroccan coast, aim to improve interoperability between the two navies, reinforce maritime surveillance capabilities and support joint efforts to prevent risks and protect strategic navigation routes. They illustrate the importance both countries place on regional stability and on securing maritime spaces.
On this occasion, the United States Ambassador to Morocco, H.E. Duke Buchan III, highlighted the strength and positive momentum of the military cooperation between the two partners. He stated:
“Our military partnership with Morocco is strong and continues to grow, reflecting our shared commitment to regional security and stability. The United States remains determined to support Morocco and African partners in the protection of maritime resources and in ensuring safe global trade.”
The Atlas Handshake exercises are part of the ongoing joint initiatives regularly conducted between the two countries, confirming Morocco’s role as a key actor in maritime security in the Atlantic region and North Africa. They also reflect the shared willingness to strengthen operational cooperation mechanisms and to respond effectively to growing challenges in maritime spaces.
With this new edition of Atlas Handshake, Morocco and the United States reaffirm the depth of their strategic partnership as well as their shared commitment to promoting a stable, secure maritime environment that supports the development of international commercial exchanges.
