Royal Air Maroc opens a new air base in Tetouan to strengthen its presence in the North of the Kingdom
After the acquisition of a dozen new aircraft and the opening of around twenty international routes, Royal Air Maroc is continuing the implementation of its development plan with the opening of a new air base at Tetouan Sania Rmel Airport.
This initiative, carried out in close collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), aims to densify Royal Air Maroc’s offer in the northern region, meet the strong demand for connectivity, and complement the existing offer from the Tangier base, according to a joint statement.
This new air base will make it possible to launch a series of direct connections to European destinations, strengthening the Kingdom’s tourism and economic attractiveness, the same source adds.
As of March 27, the national airline will expand its offer from Tetouan by connecting the city to Paris, London Gatwick, Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid, and Malaga. On the domestic network, Royal Air Maroc will also strengthen direct links between Tetouan and Casablanca with the addition of three weekly frequencies, complementing the two flights already operated on Fridays and Sundays.
This reinforcement will make it possible to offer optimized connections to the airline’s entire international network via its hub in the economic capital.
All these flights will be operated using Embraer 190 (E90) aircraft, modern and comfortable planes perfectly suited to passenger needs on these routes.
“The opening of this air base in Tetouan fully aligns with our commitment to the development of tourism in Morocco. It will better connect the northern region to the main European tourist source markets and strengthen the attractiveness of the northern region for international travelers. This offer, complementary to that of Tangier, actively contributes to the tourism and economic influence of the Kingdom,” said Royal Air Maroc Chief Executive Officer Hamid Addou.
For his part, the Director General of the ONMT, Achraf Fayda, stated that by “strengthening the accessibility of the destination and improving connectivity with strategic European markets, this initiative fully fits within the ONMT’s strategy aimed at supporting balanced, sustainable, and high value added tourism growth for the territories.”
The creation of this base in Tetouan is part of a logic of complementarity with the Tangier platform. Flight operating days have been specifically adjusted to offer a wider range of frequencies to travelers from the region and international tourists, giving them more flexibility and choice.
Tickets will be available for sale from January 7, 2026, on the Royal Air Maroc website, via call centers and the airline’s commercial agencies, as well as across the entire network of partner travel agencies, the statement concludes.
