CAN 2025: The Atlas Lions’ qualification for the second round celebrated with joy and fervor in Abidjan
The Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Morocco, thanks to the quality of its organization, the atmosphere created, and the conviviality and hospitality provided, continues to generate joy and admiration among Moroccans in Côte d’Ivoire, who once again spared no effort, as is their custom, to celebrate with joy and fervor the qualification of the Atlas Lions for the round of 16 of this continental competition.
From the early hours of Monday, the eyes of Moroccan supporters, as well as Ivorians, were fixed on the “decisive” and much anticipated clash between the Atlas Lions and the Zambian side. A match that, even beforehand, had not failed to spark debate and commentary, while nurturing great hope and determination.
Recalling the role played by the Moroccan national team in securing the qualification of the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire during the last CAN in 2023 held in Côte d’Ivoire, many Abidjan residents, loyal to their national team, did not hesitate, whenever the opportunity arose, to praise the quality of play, fighting spirit, sportsmanship and fair play of the Atlas Lions, as well as the individual performances of each of their players.
A duty of recognition and gratitude, but also of affection and fraternity that they feel toward the Moroccan people. Proof of this is that many of them did not hesitate to head in large numbers to the venues broadcasting CAN matches to follow the Morocco Zambia game and lend their support and backing to the Atlas Lions.
Among Moroccans in Côte d’Ivoire, the excitement, as usual, was felt very early, even before the first whistle announcing the start of the match that would give the national team the advantage.
Faithful to their unwavering attachment to the motherland and determined to play their role as they should by providing all the necessary support to the Atlas Lions, many Moroccans living in Ivorian territory, together with relatives and friends, gathered in large numbers in certain halls and café terraces around the city, determined to create a Moroccan atmosphere and to answer the national duty, that of supporting the Atlas Lions in this beautiful continental football adventure.
Thus, in a festive atmosphere of unbridled joy, conviviality and sharing, many Moroccans, each in their own way, amid constant ovations and ululations from the audience, were able to celebrate and pay tribute to a united, well organized and determined team that refuses to give up and continues its steady march toward the final victory, with the renewed conviction that an entire Nation is mobilized for the occasion and deserves in return joy and happiness.
After a draw against Mali with a score of 1 to 1, the players of Walid Regragui decided to take matters into their own hands by defeating the Zambian team with a fully deserved score of 3 to 0. A fine performance warmly praised by supporters of the Atlas Lions in Ivorian territory, who feel more reassured and optimistic about continuing together on the path of strong performances and major achievements.
For their part, several Moroccans established in Côte d’Ivoire expressed their determination to respond to the national call whenever circumstances require it, in order to support the Atlas Lions, while also praising the professionalism shown by Morocco in terms of organizing and hosting this continental competition.
They also welcomed the qualification of the national team for the second round, expressing the wish to see this level of performance continue all the way to the final triumph.
The resounding success of the CAN in Morocco is not the result of chance, but rather the outcome of major work carried out, above all thanks to the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has allowed football to become a lever for development and prosperity, they concluded.
