Casablanca-Settat: 125 School Buses Handed Over to Several Rural Municipalities
A batch of 125 school transport buses was handed over on Friday in Casablanca to rural municipalities within the Casablanca-Settat region.
This operation, which took place in the presence notably of the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, Mohamed Mhidia, and the President of the Regional Council, Abdellatif Maâzouz, aims to reduce school dropout rates, ease the constraints linked to pupils’ travel, and strengthen the quality of school transport in order to promote access to education for children.
Speaking on the occasion, Maâzouz stated that this initiative forms part of the 2022-2027 Regional Development Programme, noting that the programme includes a fundamental pillar dedicated to rural development, with education representing a key lever for sustainable development benefiting younger generations.
In this context, the region has carried out a comprehensive operation covering all rural municipalities, each of which has benefited from a school transport bus that it will manage directly, in order to facilitate pupils’ travel to their schools and ensure better schooling conditions, he explained.
Maâzouz also noted that this action is part of a coordinated approach involving the various stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports, adding that this cooperation aims to gradually strengthen the school transport fleet and boarding facilities in order to reduce school dropout.
Funded by the Regional Council, this initiative seeks to combat school dropout, encourage schooling in rural areas, and improve the regional educational offer.
In this regard, school transport represents a key lever for the qualitative and quantitative improvement of the education system, by helping to ease the socio-economic and geographical constraints faced by children from vulnerable backgrounds.
