South Africa Denies Any Withdrawal by Morocco from Hosting the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
South Africa has officially denied reports claiming that Morocco has withdrawn from hosting the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. In a statement issued by the South African Minister of Sports, the authorities sought to correct earlier remarks made by Deputy Minister of Sports Bertha Peace Mabe.

According to the minister, no formal decision has been taken at this stage to relocate the competition, and Morocco remains, until further notice, the country officially designated to host the 2026 Women’s AFCON. He also clarified that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not initiated any alternative process aimed at assigning the organization of the tournament to another country.
This clarification comes after several statements reported by South African media claiming that South Africa was preparing to host the continental competition following an alleged Moroccan withdrawal. These remarks had triggered strong reactions and fueled widespread speculation across the continent.
In the absence of any official communication from CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, this denial aims to restore clarity and to recall that any decision regarding the organization of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations falls exclusively within the remit of the continental governing body.
For now, the tournament schedule and host country therefore remain unchanged, pending any official announcement from CAF.
