Morocco Confirms Gulf Solidarity and Launches Security Dialogue with Belgium
Nasser Bourita meets Belgian counterpart Maxime Prévot to strengthen regional security cooperation and protect Moroccan citizens abroad.
Rabat – Morocco and Belgium have announced the establishment of a bilateral security dialogue to address current regional challenges, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said on Monday.
According to Bourita, the dialogue aims to “coordinate and reinforce cooperation on shared security concerns” and includes measures to protect the Moroccan community abroad, safeguarding its values and ties to the Kingdom.
During his meeting in Rabat with Belgian Minister Maxime Prévot, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s solidarity with Gulf countries, including Oman, in the face of Iranian aggression. “The security and stability of these states are integral to the security of the Kingdom of Morocco,” he stated, adding that Rabat supports all measures that defend their sovereignty and the safety of their citizens.
On the Palestinian issue, Bourita emphasized the need to preserve stability in Gaza and uphold the legal and historical status of the West Bank, underscoring a two-state solution as the only path to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The minister also highlighted African cooperation, praising Morocco’s role in promoting security, stability, and development on the continent, while opening new avenues for coordination with Belgium.
Bourita concluded by stressing the strength of Morocco-Belgium relations, maintained through royal family ties and characterized by growing trust and collaboration. He noted that these historic ties, spanning over 160 years, are experiencing “one of their best periods,” reflected in the 2024 Supreme Joint Commission and Belgium’s support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara.
