AFCON 2025: No Appeal Filed with CAS So Far, Uncertainty Persists on the Senegalese Side
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has indicated that it has not, to date, received any appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation, despite announcements suggesting a challenge to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision awarding the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco.
Since the official confirmation of Morocco’s triumph, Senegal’s contestation has sparked strong reactions across sporting and media circles. The federation had quickly expressed its intention to take the case to the Lausanne-based sports tribunal, suggesting that proceedings were imminent. However, no formal step has yet been recorded.
When questioned on the matter, CAS simply stated through media channels that it had not received any file from Senegal, without providing further details or a potential timeline.
Despite this, the legal deadline to file an appeal remains open until April 7. A relatively short timeframe, given the legal complexity of the case, which requires a solid and well-documented argument.
Pending any potential action, this lack of referral weakens the Senegalese position and maintains uncertainty around its strategy. For now, Morocco officially retains its continental title, awaiting any possible legal developments.
