Donald Trump: “We will send Iran back to the Stone Age… where it belongs”
President Donald Trump said Wednesday evening that the United States is “on track” to achieve “very soon” all of its military objectives in Iran.
“Thanks to the progress we have made, I can say tonight that we are on track to achieve all U.S. military objectives in the near future, very soon,” President Trump said in an address to the American people from the White House.
“We are going to finish the job, and we are going to do it very quickly. We are very close to the goal,” he added, while stating that the United States will “hit very hard” the Iranian regime over the “next two or three weeks.”
“We will send Iran back to the Stone Age, where it belongs,” said the White House occupant. According to the U.S. president, a regime change in Iran was not the objective of the U.S. military operation. “We never spoke about regime change, but it happened following the death of all their original leaders,” he continued, estimating that the new leadership in Tehran is “less radical and much more reasonable.”
The U.S. president also warned that if no agreement is reached, the United States would strike “very hard, and probably simultaneously” each power plant in Iran.
In addition, Donald Trump pledged that he would not abandon Gulf countries in the face of Iranian attacks and aggression.
“I want to thank our allies in the Middle East: Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain. They have been tremendous, and we will under no circumstances allow them to suffer any harm or failure,” he said.
Referring to the course of the military operation “Epic Fury,” Mr. Trump spoke of “decisive” and “overwhelming” victories against Tehran since the start of Israeli-American operations on February 28.
“Over the past four weeks, our armed forces have achieved rapid, decisive, and overwhelming victories on the battlefield, victories like very few people have ever seen before,” he said.
Regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. president called on countries that depend on it to “take care of” the strait, which has been blocked by Iran since the beginning of the war and through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply normally transits.
“Go to the strait, take it, protect it, use it,” Donald Trump said, while criticizing a number of NATO allies for not assisting the United States.
Earlier in the day, the U.S. president announced that Iran had requested a ceasefire, but indicated that he would only consider halting hostilities after the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
