Fouzi Lekjaa: Morocco Confident in Its Case Before the CAS

In a statement to the press, Fouzi Lekjaa stressed that the Kingdom possesses “clear and documented” evidence regarding the course of the final. Official reports, video recordings, and regulatory elements support Morocco’s position, strengthening its prospects before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), based in Lausanne.

At the center of the case is the withdrawal of the Senegalese team during the final. According to Lekjaa, this withdrawal is formally established, notably through the referee’s report and footage confirming the circumstances of the abandonment. These elements constitute, in his view, a decisive legal foundation.

The Moroccan official also recalled that the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is based on Article 84 of its disciplinary regulations, which governs cases of withdrawal or abandonment of a match. On this basis, CAF had confirmed Morocco’s victory by forfeit (3-0), following the exit of the Senegalese players from the pitch.

Furthermore, Lekjaa noted that the Moroccan team had agreed to continue the match in strict compliance with the rules, emphasizing that any refusal would have exposed Morocco to similar sanctions.

The case is now in the hands of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which has been seized by the Senegalese Football Federation, contesting CAF’s decision and requesting the title be awarded to Senegal. In its appeal, the Senegalese body is also seeking the suspension of proceedings pending the publication of the detailed reasoning behind the decision issued on March 17, 2026.

Pending the final verdict, Morocco remains firm in its position, convinced that both the facts and the law are in its favor in this high-stakes sporting and legal case.
