Civil Aviation: 5th Global Implementation Support Symposium (ICAO-GISS 2026) opens in Marrakech
The fifth edition of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (ICAO-GISS 2026), jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), opened on Tuesday in Marrakech under the theme: “Regional Solutions, Global Benefits.”
The opening of the event, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was chaired by Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh, in the presence of ICAO Council President Toshiyuki Onuma, along with around forty foreign ministers responsible for civil aviation and directors general of civil aviation from more than 80 countries, according to a ministry statement.
Also attending the gathering are senior ICAO officials and experts, as well as key players from the global aviation industry, bringing together more than 1,500 participants representing over 130 countries.
The symposium is part of the momentum of the “No Country Left Behind” initiative and aims to strengthen the effectiveness of support for implementing international standards by turning political commitments into concrete and measurable results for the balanced and sustainable development of global air transport.
The opening ceremony featured high-level speeches highlighting the importance of accelerating the modernization of air transport systems, strengthening state capacities in safety, security and oversight, and promoting the sustainable development of the sector.
Several agreements and partnerships were signed on the occasion, reflecting a collective determination to reinforce technical cooperation, mobilize appropriate financing and support countries in developing efficient, resilient and secure aviation systems.
The ceremony also included an air show by the Marche Verte aerobatic team of the Royal Air Forces, as well as the inauguration of the exhibition hall, offering participants direct insight into the latest innovations and solutions in the sector.
A ministerial roundtable is also scheduled, allowing decision-makers to examine strategic mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of ICAO standards while promoting balanced and inclusive growth in global air transport.
The program includes seven thematic panels focusing in particular on air connectivity as a driver of economic growth, social cohesion and regional integration, aviation safety, civil aviation financing, airport infrastructure challenges, and talent development to prepare the next generation of global aviation professionals.
ICAO-GISS 2026 therefore reaffirms the collective commitment to a safer, more efficient, sustainable and inclusive global aviation sector, transforming regional solutions into worldwide benefits for all member states.
