Syria Thanks His Majesty the King for the Decision to Open the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus
Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Assaad Al-Chaibani, expressed on Saturday his country's gratitude and appreciation for the decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to open the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of his meeting with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, the Syrian Foreign Minister described the relations between Morocco and Syria as “very good.”
“We thank His Majesty the King and the Moroccan government for their interest in developing these relations, which we hope to strengthen, particularly in the economic field and in terms of investment in the Arab world,” he emphasized.
For his part, Mr. Bourita reiterated during the meeting the Decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as announced in the speech delivered by the Sovereign at the 34th Arab Summit, held Saturday in Baghdad.
In his address, His Majesty the King announced the Kingdom’s decision to reopen its embassy in Damascus, which has been closed since 2012, stressing that “this step will open broader prospects for the historical relations between our two countries and our two peoples.”
On this occasion, the Sovereign reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering historical stance toward Syria, previously expressed in a letter addressed by His Majesty the King to President Ahmed Acharaa, conveying support for the brotherly Syrian people in their pursuit of freedom, security, and stability, as well as Morocco’s commitment to preserving Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As part of implementing the Royal Decision, Mr. Bourita announced that a technical delegation will travel to Syria next week to assess the preparations related to the embassy’s reopening, which will serve as a channel of communication and coordination across various fields.
Mr. Al-Chaibani also announced the upcoming dispatch of a technical team to open the Syrian Embassy in Rabat.
