Africa’s Stability Hinges on Strengthening Nations’ Sovereignty – Morocco’s Lower House Speaker
Rabat - Morocco's Lower House Speaker Rachid Talbi El Alami emphasized on Wednesday that consolidating national sovereignty is a sine qua non for achieving sustainable development and ensuring stability in Africa

In a speech at the opening of the 83rd Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) hosted by the Parliament in Rabat, Talbi El Alami stressed that territorial integrity, the unity of nations, and non-interference in the affairs of others also constitute a political and strategic imperative and a cornerstone of international law.
The Union aims to strengthen joint parliamentary action and promote peace, democracy, good governance, and sustainable development, while fostering communication among African parliamentarians and with their counterparts around the world.
In this regard, the parliamentary official maintained that food, energy, and pharmaceutical sovereignty—as well as spiritual security—are no less critical in today’s global context.
“Numerous protracted conflicts continue to hinder Africa’s development, discourage investment, and fuel severe humanitarian crises, triggering repeated waves of migration, asylum-seeking, and displacement,” he added.
Talbi El Alami asserted that responsibility, the fulfillment of international commitments and agreements, political ethics, and good neighborliness all demand that “we uphold the sovereignty of nations, as no country would accept an infringement upon its own sovereignty.”
Furthermore, he recalled the initiatives launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for the advancement of cross-border and forward-looking African development.
These projects include the Atlantic African States Process; the Initiative aimed at enabling Atlantic Ocean access for the Sahel countries; and the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project, which will benefit 13 African countries, all of which embody HM the King’s vision of a thriving Africa and a meaningful South-South partnership.
