Crushing Defeat for the Algerian Regime at PARLACEN: Pro-Polisario Propaganda Swept Aside by Diplomatic Common Sense
Stuck in the past and unable to reinvent itself, Algeria continues to chase a dying separatist dream, at the expense of its own people’s legitimate aspirations. The latest attempt to push that agenda ended in a humiliating failure: on May 28, 2025, during a session of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), a fringe group of left-wing MPs, backed by Nicaragua’s authoritarian government, tried to introduce a pro-“RASD” resolution. The initiative, spearheaded by Nicaraguan MP José Antonio Zepeda, a known loyalist to the Sandinista regime, was met with little more than indifference and awkward silence in the chamber.

The response was swift. Guatemalan representatives, backed by former President Alejandro Giammattei, firmly reiterated their support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, a position based on longstanding cooperation, facts on the ground, and direct engagement.
A particularly telling passage in the statement (Article 2) reads: “We express our appreciation to the Kingdom of Morocco, a strategic partner of PARLACEN, committed to peace, development, and unity among peoples.”
Algerian Diplomacy in Free Fall
This latest embarrassment is just one in a long list of setbacks for Algeria’s floundering foreign policy, which increasingly leans on isolated regimes and powerless political actors. With no constructive vision or coherent regional strategy to offer, the military-led government clings to an outdated ideological cause, one that has been widely dismissed by global institutions and forgotten by the public.
Meanwhile, Morocco continues to move forward. In April 2025, PARLACEN President Carlos René Hernández visited Laâyoune, followed by a visit to Rabat in early May. His message was clear: Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara is recognized, strengthened, and respected.
A Desperate Obsession Turned Farce
Rather than addressing the real social and economic needs of its citizens, Algeria keeps pouring resources into a lost cause. While ordinary Algerians grapple with hardship, censorship, and political stagnation, their leaders invest in bizarre anti-Moroccan campaigns, going as far as banning artists, cultural content, and even couscous… if it comes from Rabat.
The disconnect would be laughable if it weren’t so tragic. In place of bread or freedom, Algerians get empty slogans and petty bans.
Morocco Holds Steady on the Global Stage
Morocco, by contrast, is strengthening its alliances, building lasting partnerships, and contributing meaningfully to regional stability. Guided by the clear vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom’s diplomacy stands out for its legitimacy, dialogue, and sense of responsibility.
The Sahara is Moroccan, historically, legally, and diplomatically. No fringe MP or Algerian-orchestrated campaign can change that fact.
