Moroccan Sahara: YNNA Holding and Emirati Group AMEA Power Join Forces for Ambitious 100 MW Wind Project in Laâyoune
In a strategic move to support Morocco’s energy transition, YNNA Holding and AMEA Power, a subsidiary of the Emirati conglomerate Al Nowais Investments, have announced a joint partnership to develop a 100 megawatt wind farm in the Laâyoune region.

The large-scale project, set up as a 50/50 joint venture, reflects the shared commitment of both companies to actively contribute to Morocco’s national renewable energy strategy. Once operational, the facility is expected to avoid more than 330,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually and directly support national goals around energy sovereignty and carbon reduction by 2030.
A forward-looking Morocco–UAE energy alliance
For Mama Tajmouati, Chair and CEO of YNNA Holding, the partnership marks a key milestone in the group’s strategic shift toward sustainability.
“This project fits squarely within our vision for an integrated, competitive and sustainable energy model, not just for our subsidiaries but for Morocco as a whole. It reflects our determination to play a leading role in the country’s green transition,” she said.
The wind farm will supply clean electricity to all of YNNA’s industrial operations while also delivering major environmental and socioeconomic benefits for the Laâyoune region and beyond.
Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, emphasized the broader strategic importance of the collaboration.
“This partnership with YNNA Holding demonstrates our long-term commitment to Morocco, a close friend and trusted partner. We’re proud to support its journey toward clean energy and confident that Laâyoune has the potential to become a major wind energy hub,” he said.
Commissioning expected by 2027
Leveraging the strong wind potential of southern Morocco, the project is set to begin construction by the end of 2025. Commercial operations are expected to start in 2027.
It also aligns with Morocco’s broader push for renewable energy, which includes the upcoming launch of a 1,000 MW offshore wind farm near Essaouira, under the Blue Mediterranean Partnership.
Through this new investment in Laâyoune, YNNA and AMEA Power are helping shape a resilient, sustainable and sovereign energy future for Morocco.
