EU–Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting: Nasser Bourita Holds Series of Bilateral Talks

On Monday in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of his participation in the 5th European Union–Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting.

The Minister, accompanied notably by Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Ahmed Reda Chami, met with the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, to discuss ways of strengthening the partnership between Morocco and the EU.

The meeting focused on the Kingdom’s engagement in the upcoming Pact for the Mediterranean, which aims to give fresh momentum to the partnership between both shores of the Mediterranean as part of the EU’s Neighbourhood Policy.

Mr. Bourita also held talks with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. The two officials exchanged views on the strategic partnership between Morocco and the EU, as well as on various regional and international issues of shared interest.

Subsequently, Mr. Bourita met with Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares. The meeting was an opportunity to review bilateral cooperation ties and explore ways to further develop them within the framework of the ongoing dialogue and consultation between the two countries.

On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, Mr. Bourita also held discussions with several of his counterparts, including the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, and Slovenia.

The 5th EU–Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting aims to exchange views on the upcoming Pact for the Mediterranean, set to be presented next autumn on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Declaration.
