Rabat: Morocco Reaffirms Commitment to International Law in the Delimitation of Maritime Spaces

Rabat – On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates hosted a major international conference in Rabat under the theme: “International Practices in the Delimitation of Maritime Spaces.”

On this occasion, the speech of Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita was delivered by his Chief of Cabinet, Samy Marrakchi. In his address, Mr. Bourita stressed that the delimitation of maritime spaces has become a strategic issue at the intersection of economic, security, environmental, and diplomatic interests.

The Minister recalled that Morocco, true to its diplomatic tradition, has always adhered strictly to international law as enshrined in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. He underlined that the delimitation of maritime spaces can only be approached in a spirit of cooperation, dialogue, and good neighborliness, transforming seas and oceans into areas of peace, stability, and shared prosperity.

Mr. Bourita also highlighted Morocco’s efforts to develop a proactive maritime diplomacy, one that not only safeguards national interests but also contributes to international initiatives for the protection of marine resources, maritime security, and the fight against climate challenges.

In closing, the Minister reaffirmed that Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will continue to make its maritime spaces a driver of sustainable development and regional cooperation, further strengthening its role as a pivotal nation between Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic world.

The conference, which brought together diplomats, academics, and experts in international law, was hailed as an essential step in the collective reflection on ocean governance and the responsible management of maritime spaces.
