Washington Reaffirms Commitment to Morocco: Statement by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in New York
On the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA80), Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held talks on Wednesday, September 24 in New York with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
Following the meeting, Landau made a press statement marked by strong expressions of trust and partnership. He underlined that relations between Morocco and the United States, rooted in a centuries-old friendship, today constitute a solid foundation for working together in favor of prosperity, peace, and stability in the region.
The American official recalled that Washington has formally recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, a strategic decision that reflects the consistency and depth of the Moroccan-American alliance.
In this context, Landau announced that, in line with the Trump administration’s global initiatives to promote economic and commercial diplomacy, the United States will encourage American companies to invest in Morocco’s Southern Provinces. According to him, this reflects Washington’s determination to actively contribute to the economic development of the region, which is set to become a hub of exchange and prosperity in Africa.
This declaration further confirms the strategic and multidimensional character of the Moroccan-American partnership, which encompasses political, security, economic, and cultural cooperation, and continues to stand as a pillar of regional stability.
