Standardization of Smoke-Free Products at the Heart of a Debate in Casablanca
The issue of standardizing smoke-free products was at the center of a roundtable held on Thursday, October 16, at a major hotel in Casablanca. Organized by La Vie Éco in partnership with Philip Morris, the event brought together a panel of experts from the scientific, legislative, and civil society fields to discuss a topic that has become crucial for consumer protection and market regulation.

A major step forward in a long-uncharted sector
After several years of development in a legal vacuum, smoke-free products such as nicotine pouches and electronic cigarettes are now subject to precise standards setting limits on nicotine content, transparency requirements, and labeling rules.
Speakers welcomed this major regulatory advance, describing it as a decisive step toward better consumer protection and a more transparent and secure market.
Experts call for constructive dialogue
The meeting was marked by the participation of several prominent figures:
- Dr. Fatima Gouaïma Mazzi, former parliamentarian and public health specialist
- Mr. Ouadi Madih, president of the National Federation of Consumer Associations
- Prof. Yasser Sefiani, professor of vascular surgery
- Prof. Moncef Drissi, pharmacotoxicologist and addiction specialist
These experts shared their perspectives on public health challenges, economic implications, and the responsibility of manufacturers in implementing the new standards. They also stressed the importance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue between public authorities, health professionals, and industry stakeholders to ensure effective and sustainable regulation.
A meeting under the banner of consultation
With the presence of Philip Morris’ management, the roundtable provided a platform for constructive discussion on an issue that remains relatively new in Morocco but is expected to play an increasingly important role in future health and responsible consumption policies.
