Nasser Bourita Meets with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM): Morocco Praised for Its Global Leadership on Migration
On Tuesday, October 21, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, held talks in Rabat with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Amy Pope.


During the meeting, Ms. Pope “praised the exemplary partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the IOM,” highlighting “the strategic and humanitarian dimension of the migration policy led under the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.”
The UN official also recalled that “Morocco occupies a unique place in global migration governance, as the birthplace of the ‘Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration’ adopted in Marrakech in December 2018 — a foundational text that continues to guide international policies in this area.”
Ms. Pope further expressed her recognition for Morocco as “the world’s largest contributor to the IOM Resilience Fund, a concrete commitment illustrating the solidarity and shared responsibility promoted by the Kingdom in the global management of migration.”
Finally, the IOM Director-General “reaffirmed her enthusiasm and commitment to further deepen this ambitious and innovative partnership with Morocco, in order to continue implementing sustainable, humane, and supportive solutions to contemporary migration challenges.”
This meeting reinforces the Kingdom of Morocco’s position as “a reference actor and indispensable partner in global migration governance, faithful to its vocation of openness, cooperation, and South-South solidarity.”
