Marsa Maroc and CMA CGM Join Forces to Make Nador West Med a Strategic Mediterranean Port Hub
A new major step has just been taken in the development of the Nador West Med port, one of the Kingdom’s structuring projects on the Mediterranean coast. The Marsa Maroc group and CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of the French giant CMA CGM, have officially concluded a strategic partnership for the operation of the port’s West Container Terminal.

A Strategic Alliance for Port Performance
According to a joint statement, the two partners will create a joint venture, 51% owned by Marsa Maroc and 49% by CMA Terminals. This entity will be responsible for the management, development, and operation of the terminal, subject to validation by the competent authorities.
This terminal, whose gradual commissioning is scheduled to begin in 2027, will have an annual capacity of 1.8 million TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units). Established over an area of 60 hectares, it will feature 900 meters of quay, a depth of 18 meters, and will be equipped with eight STS gantry cranes at full capacity. These infrastructures meet the most demanding standards of global maritime transport.
Synergy Between Local Expertise and Global Network
This cooperation marks a new milestone in the collaboration between Morocco and the CMA CGM group, already sealed through a similar partnership at Tanger Med port in October 2024.
Thanks to this alliance, the future terminal will benefit from both the power of the CMA CGM group’s international network, capable of attracting global commercial flows, and the recognized operational experience of Marsa Maroc, a key player in national port management.
Nador West Med, a Future Reference Hub in the Mediterranean
The Nador West Med container terminal aims to become a new generation transshipment hub, combining performance, connectivity, and sustainability.
Located in Betoya Bay, in strategic proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar, the port enjoys a privileged geographical position on the major maritime routes linking Europe, Africa, and America.
This partnership thus strengthens Morocco’s role as an emerging maritime power and a central player in the reconfiguration of logistical exchanges in the Mediterranean. With Nador West Med, the Kingdom continues its ambitious strategy of diversifying and modernizing its port platforms, consolidating its position as an essential logistical and commercial hub on a regional and global scale.
