Addis Ababa: Morocco Chairs the Annual Meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa with International Partners

Morocco chaired on Monday in Addis Ababa the annual meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) with its international partners.

The Kingdom assumed this responsibility in its capacity as Chair of the Bureau of the 57th Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Speaking on this occasion, Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi, emphasized that this meeting serves as a key platform for dialogue between UNECA, member states and development partners. It allows the examination of shared priorities and the strengthening of coordinated action to promote sustainable and inclusive development across the African continent.

During the meeting, attended by members of the COM57 Bureau, Mr. Arrouchi also highlighted the strategic importance of connectivity as a driver of economic transformation.

He stressed that improving transport, energy and telecommunications infrastructure remains essential to foster regional integration, boost intra-African trade and harness the continent’s agricultural and productive potential.

Addressing the issue of development financing, Mr. Arrouchi recalled that Africa faces an annual shortfall estimated at one trillion dollars to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

He called for greater mobilization of innovative financing mechanisms and stronger partnerships with the international community, reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to work alongside its African and international partners for a more integrated, resilient and prosperous Africa.

It is worth recalling that Morocco was elected last March in Addis Ababa to chair the 57th session of UNECA and the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
